Point Reyes Visions Guidebook

The little (5x7”) guidebook is a collaboration of photographer Richard Blair and writer Kathleen Goodwin, who previously self-published Point Reyes Visions, a best-selling coffee table color book on the Point Reyes National Seashore.

The guidebook combines fine-art black and white photography with local knowledge of beaches and trails. It fits easily into a backpack or coat pocket. It is unusual in the extraordinary amount of effort that has been lavished both on the photo reproduction and descriptions of the essence of Point Reyes. This little pocket guide is just what you need to enjoy Point Reyes. If you follow the advice – take the hikes, visit the beaches, see the animals – you will be rewarded with extraordinary experiences.

Subjects include hikes, picnic sites, locations to watch the sunset, what to do on rainy days, suggestions for morning outings, mountain bike routes, backpacking campgrounds, a list of places to take your dog, and other practical tips to really enjoy the area. The descriptions of the hikes convey the excitement of being out there, not just boring route statistics found in typical trail guides. A pocket at the back of each book contains a waterproof color map that is impossible to tear.

It is printed on high quality lumisilk paper by the British Museum’s fine edition printer. The results are unlike any other printed guidebook for sharpness and tonality. It’s a cute, beautiful book.

Our printer in Singapore used the finest halftone screens and their best pressmanship for the reproductions of the photographs. The result is truly amazing. People hug the book.

There are 79 photographs on lumisilk fine art paper. It's sewn to be extra-durable, and has an up-to-date waterproof and tearproof color hiking map of Point Reyes National Seashore in a pocket on the inside back cover. The jacket of the clothbound books are protected with a matte lamination. The cloth version is bound in the black Japanese Saifu cloth and the spine is foil stamped in gold. The photographs are 200 line black and brown duotones which required traditional press plates made from film rather than computer generated plates.

The Guidebook has a tear-proof and waterproof map!
