Mount Watkins, Yosemite Valley

from $50.00

Mount Watkins is named for Carleton Watkins, the first great Yosemite photographer; a hero of mine. Most likely, his wonderful photographs of Yosemite were seen by Abraham Lincoln, and became an inspiration for the creation of National Parks world over. That’s why I am so pissed when rangers hassle me (do you have a filming permit?) This is taken from upper Mirror Lake and the rock in the photograph once supported many a tourist (in top hats or petticoats!) from the earliest days of selfies.

Photographed with a Canon digital camera, a telephoto lens, a tripod in color. The image was converted to black and white using mainly the red channel so the sky would be dark against the cloud. The image was adjusted in photoshop for contrast, and digitally burned and dodged. The image was then printed on an archival Canon Printer on archival paper.
